Rattan Direct is an established outdoor furniture manufacturer. They are leaders in their sector which have grown to be more and more competitive. New players enter the market place every year and Rattan found their online offering was showing it’s age both cosmetically but even more important wasn’t converting near to it’s potential.

180South were appointed as Rattan’s UX, UI and design agency to create a new website and brand refresh to help position the company as a creative leader in the marketplace and to achieve it’s revenue goals.

What was going wrong?

We started in a great place, Rattan’s organic traffic was excellent but with only a 0.5% conversion our specialists were excited at the prospects to turn the business around. Our investigation began…

Creating an incredible user experience.

Designing user experiences that delight is a difficult task. It takes a highly skilled team of experts: user experience strategists, user interface designers, copywriters, photographers, and engineers. 180South assembled a team of specialist to craft and optimize the Rattan’s user experience.

We worked closely with the Rattan leadership and marketing teams to develop user profiles, journeys and stories, then applied these to a new navigation structure and information architecture. We formed focus groups and performed real-time and remote user testing at each stage of the project.

The unique balancing act.

Every great digital product strikes a fine balance between business goals and user needs. Rattan’s website was no different. While the overarching business goal was to make it easier for users to buy products, there were several user goals that needed to be addressed and accomplished. We were able to strike a clean balance between driving sales, helping users trust and believe in the brand and exploring to find the perfect product.

All screen compatibility.

Rattan’s traffic is gently swayed to mobile devices but the desktop is still a key player in this market. Our findings led us to understand customers drifted across-device during multiple visits before purchase. Knowing this, one of our primary goals was to craft the user interface design to be modular, in order to achieve perfect responsiveness, no matter the screen size.
