Designing the go-to app for flights

Netflights is an award-winning travel company.  Netflights was founded in 1992 and their online sales equate to 26% of their overall revenue with over 450 members of staff.

180South was appointed to work alongside the internal marketing, UX and design teams to lead the redesign of the search structure of the website.

The focus was to evolve and engage with customers to increase leads and revenue.

Creating an incredible user experience.

Designing user experiences that delight is a difficult task especially within the travel sector. Travel websites are among the most complex for customers to navigate, with a variety of tasks to complete in one session.

At 180South we have great knowledge and experience in the travel sector and assembled a team of specialist to craft and optimize the Netflights user experience.

At the core of every 180South project lies a human focussed, customer-first strategy. Whether we are crafting an effective and delightful user experience or a new brand identity, every project starts with a plan.

We worked closely with the Netflights leadership and marketing teams to develop user profiles, journeys and stories, then applied these to a new search structure and information architecture.

All screen compatibility.
Netflight’s traffic is balanced but starting to sway in the direction of mobile devices, so one of our primary goals was to craft the user interface design to be phone focussed. We took on a phone-first approach. For this type of user experience, the key and most challenging solutions are solved through the phone and are later passed and adjusted for the desktop and tablet sizes. This approach is a way to streamline process and means we were able to move into build sooner.

Desktop and tablet versions followed where more screen estate was taken advantage of to speed up on-site tasks.

The unique balancing act.

Every great digital product strikes a fine balance between business goals and user needs. Netflights site was no different. While the overarching business goal was to make it easier for users to search, compare and book, there were brand goals that needed to be addressed and accomplished to give Netflights a trustworthy and aspiring brand.

. We were able to strike a nice balance between driving sales, helping users find their perfect holiday and explore the various offers as they become available.

UX & Brand boost

Coupled with the UX rework we gave Netflights a brand evolution. Here we explored where the brand could move visually and reflect in the business’ forward-thinking nature. We developed fresh clean iconography and reduced the colour palette to aid user experience and give the beautiful destinations room to breathe. We removed anything that wasn’t 100% essential to the complex tasks which ended with a fresh, clean solution to be proud of.
